At-home, direct to consumer DNA tests are based on good science but even better, yet potentially unethical, marketing. So in this article, I want to reflect on the science of at-home DNA testing and what are realistic expectations to have from the resulting information.

CRISPR is a truly remarkable molecular tool, it has aided the scientific community immensely. However, CRISPR is not a miracle cure-all; off-target effects, difficult-delivery, imperfect editing efficiency, and on-target accuracy, in addition to interaction with cell’s essential checkpoint regulators, are all important signs that we should proceed with caution when evaluating the use of CRISPR in medical applications.
